📍 Map Update: The Great Religious Realignment (of Coordinates)

📍 Map Update: The Great Religious Realignment (of Coordinates)

Big update alert! Our Religious University Survivability Map just got a fresh new coat of digital paint—and by that, I mean we corrected the coordinates for a bunch of wandering universities that were previously floating somewhere between “vaguely Midwest” and “possibly Bermuda.”

But that’s not all:
We’ve also added a cooler color scheme (literally—it’s easier on the eyes) and updated the quantile categories to something a little more human-sounding. So instead of trying to interpret what “Quantile 6” means, you’ll now see friendly(ish) tags like Elite, Secure, At-Risk, and—everyone’s favorite—Critical.

🏛️ About Those Denominations...

You may notice your favorite university showing up as “Roman Catholic” or “Protestant” or even “Not Applicable” (bold move, I know). All of these labels are taken directly from what institutions report to the Department of Education.

Now, do I think some of them may have checked the wrong box?
Yes.
Do I think others may have picked the denomination equivalent of “it’s complicated”?
Also yes.

So here’s the deal:
If you know for a fact that a school has been labeled incorrectly—maybe your alma mater is showing up as “Lutheran” when it’s actually “Baptist with strong coffee”—let me know! I’m happy to fix it in the next update.

🗺️ Why the Update?

This April 2025 revision corrects hundreds of latitude/longitude entries, ensuring that:

  • The pins on the map actually reflect where these universities are.
  • We’re not accidentally attributing Yale to rural Kansas (again).
  • The map works better, looks cleaner, and tells a clearer story.

Thanks again to everyone who sent in suggestions, corrections, and "Hey, my school is 700 miles too far west" emails. Keep them coming!
